Seneca Street Residence and Studio

On a steep site in downtown Ithaca, Barradas and Partners have designed a new studio to house the firm as well as a renovation to a farmhouse.

The project was inspired by the slight difference between the current grid of the city and the idiosyncratic angles of an earlier agrarian age. The design for the house and studio make use of both systems. The interior finishes of the house are a similar juxtaposition of existing rough lumber beams and modern materials.

Award Citation 2006

The Seneca Studio project earned an American Institute of Architects Southern New York Chapter Award Citation. Jury comments included admiration for the siting, the encorporation of the project into a residential context and the well-crafted detailing.
